This is a free service created by The Mystery Company, an independent bookshop located in Carmel. We are just getting started. Consider this a "first draft" of this website. Indianapolis Area Literary Events Calendar Saturday, July 12, 11:00 am - noon Not on My Watch: The 21st Century Combat Medic is the story of a combat medic on the modern battlefield. Co-author Joshua Peters is the recipient of the Combat Medic Badge and two Army Commendation Medals, one with Valor Device, for actions during the attack on the CH-47 Chinook Helicopter in November 2003. He has been honored with a tribute to Heroism in the Congressional Record of the 108th Congress. Josh currently resides in the Indianapolis metro area. This event is part of Mudsock's Grand Opening celebration, July 12-19. Bower has published five acclaimed photography books; his most recent is Silent Workplace, on shops, stores, businesses and factories where Hoosiers once earned a living. Book signing and sales will follow. Author's website: www.studioindiana.com North Madison County Public Library Wednesday, July 16, 7 pm Legacies of Hamilton County: Women of Entrepreneurial Spirit profiles 83 women who own and operate small businesses here in Hamilton County. A variety of businesses are highlighted from services to shops and boutiques, each with its own unique story. Each story is accompanied by a professional portrait by Master Photographer, Jim Wyant, of Wyant Photography Inc., capturing the essence of each lady, as well as several images of supporting families. Five of the profiled women will talk about the challenges of owning a business and the wisdom that they have learned over the years, and then they will sign copies of the book. The featured guests will be Kay Krober (Kay Krober Invitations and Celebrations), Jan Miller (Jan's Village Pizza), Barb Smith (Scheitlin Communications), Cherie Piebes (Artisan Masterpiece) and Ann Hanson (Annie's Tea Wagon). It is part cookbook, part nutrition guide, with a lot of humor and helpful hints in between. Author Cherie Kimmons brings to the table years of experience as a humor columnist, aerobics and nutrition instructor, parent volunteer and baseball mom. The anthology is a production of Indiana's chapter of Sisters in Crime, an international organization that supports women mystery writers.
