Our calendar provides information about book signings, author appearances, and other literary events in the Indianapolis area. This is a free service created by The Mystery Company, an independent bookshop located in Carmel.

We are just getting started. Consider this a "first draft" of this website. We apologize for recent delays in posting events; we now have a new volunteer working with us to keep the site current. Please welcome Stephanie Warner!

We encourage organizations -- libraries, bookstores, groups, etc. -- and local writers to submit their upcoming events by email to mail@indylit.com or by fax at 317-705-1402.

Saturday, October 4, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Thomas Larson, The Memoir and the Memoirist

Join Larson for an all-day memoir-writing workshop, where he will discuss how to plan, focus, and begin a memoir: what makes for good subjects in memoirs? what are the differences between autobiographies and memoirs? how do you address the idea of self-disclosure? There will be time for multiple writing exercises, readings from published memoirs, discussion of the tension between emotional and factual truth, ideas about truth-telling for memoirists, and one-on-one sharing and critique. The goal will be to draft the material for the first chapter of a memoir. Bring a sack lunch. Admission: $65 for members of The Writers' Center of Indiana, $75 for non-members.
